Witnessing an increase in population due to different reasons

Urban population grows in two ways namely through natural increase and by immigration.  Natural increase in population is the result of improved food supplies, better sanitation, and advances in medical care that reduces the death rate and causes the population to grow.  The average lifespan of the people has more than doubled since the last decade.  In spite of the urban pollution and other distressing factors, the quality of the health services has improved a lot, is continuously improving and it likely to match the developments in the advanced world in the near future.  Kochi has already earned a name for itself as a prominent hub for ‘medical tourism’ mainly due to the presence of prominent hospitals and world-class research centers.
 
Immigration to cities like Kochi caused by certain positive factors like a better lifestyle and assured income has resulted in major changes in the urban areas.  Changing land tenure patterns, agriculture, economic, political, racial and religious outlook push the people towards the city areas.  The pull factors that caused this migration are that many people are there by chance, attracted by the excitement, vitality and opportunities offered by the cities. 
 
Cities like Kochi offer jobs, housing, entertainment and freedom from the constraints of village traditions.  It also supports specialization in arts, crafts and professions for which markets don’t exist elsewhere.  This is one reason as to why almost all the major businesses in Kerala have already set up shop in this picturesque destination.
 
Properties in Kochi have appreciated like never before because it offers attractive jobs, entertainment, and opportunities for specialization in different fields and has emerged as an important administrative, health and education center.  These pull factors have helped in the increase in urban population in the last 30 years.
